Work on the digging of the Vistula Spit
The General Contractor, a Polish-Belgian consortium of NDI and Besix, is currently conducting organisational and preparatory works in this area.
The land part has been being cleaned of ferromagnetic objects, such as unexploded explosive ordnance, for several weeks now. So far approx. 3000 items have been found, including the remains of military operations during World War II (i.a. remains of ammunition boxes and shells). This work will last about two weeks more.
Meanwhile, the removal of wood and clean-up of the construction site is planned to be completed by the end of January. Installation of piezometers for monitoring changes in the level of the water table and its salinity has also begun.
