New route in Olkusz. The expansion of National Road No. 94 is underway

In Olkusz, in the Małopolskie Voivodshop, the NDI Group, in a consortium with Masfalt and Drogomex, is expanding National Road No. 94. Over the past year, temporary traffic management measures have been introduced and the necessary demolition work has begun. The modernization of a section approximately 4.4 km long will not only improve road safety, but also the comfort of travel.

The project covers the section from Grodzisk in Staromiejska Street to the intersection of Centralna Street and Pakuska Street. The project envisages the expansion of the road and strengthening of its structure, which will increase the road’s load-bearing capacity to 11.5 tonnes. As part of the work, a two-span overpass with retaining walls will be built, two underpasses will be rebuilt, and a pedestrian bridge will be built over DK94 along Szkolna Street and Cegielniana Street. There are also plans to build local distributor roads and six intersections.

– Over the past year, we have agreed, among other things, on temporary traffic management, which was not an easy task due to the number of parties involved in the arrangements and the complexity of this task due to the lack of alternative roads. We have removed approximately 70% of power and telecommunications lines conflicts. We have also started construction of a storm sewer system, including two retention tanks with a total capacity of approximately 1,500 m3. We have demolished two underpasses and started the construction of two new ones – reports Michał Barczyk, Project Director at the NDI Group.

The expansion of National Road No. 94 in Olkusz will improve the safety of both pedestrians and drivers. In addition to the crossings, there will be road refuges with lighting, new traffic lights, bus bays, pedestrian and bicycle paths and noise barrier. Street lighting will be installed primarily at intersections, bus bays and pedestrian crossings, which will increase visibility and comfort for road users.

Currently, due to the winter period, which will last until mid-March, only works that may be carries out in these conditions are performed. This includes the construction of a storm sewer system, reconstruction of the water supply network, including the main header, but also reinforced concrete works on underground passages. – As soon as weather conditions allow it, we plan to speed up the roadworks – says Michał Barczyk.

The NDI Group, acting as the General Contractor, is also responsible for developing as-built documentation and obtaining an occupancy permit on behalf of the Investor – the Kraków branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The value of the project amounts to almost PLN 217.5 million.
