Modern swimming pools were constructed in Gdynia
The Polish Naval Academy (pl. Akademia Marynarki Wojennej) in Gdynia has expanded its Academic Sports Centre with another facility. Next to the sports hall, an eight-lane swimming pool and a diving pool with a movable bottom were built.
This is the second stage of the construction of the comprehensive Sports Centre at the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia. Indoor pools are being built on the AMW campus. The contractor for this stage of works is NDI based in Sopot. The commissioning should take place in the second half of July, works are underway from October 2017. From July 27 to August 4, the 19th World Summer Polonia Games will be held at the newly built facilities
Works on the construction of the Sports Centre are almost completed. Currently, acceptance is underway. The contractor – NDI – has already received positive opinions of the Fire Department and the Military Department of Preventive Medicine (military equivalent of the State Sanitary Inspectorate), which are required for an occupancy permit. The last stage will be the handover of the facility to the investor, i.e. the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia. What does the investment consist of? An indoor eight-lane swimming pool with a length of 25m and a multi-functional training pool with a movable bottom were added to the sports hall. A new hall was created with sanitary facilities and rooms for instructors, and the wellness rooms were rebuilt.
Parameters of the swimming pool are dimensions of 21×25 m in the plan view with a variable depth of 1.8 – 2.4 m with a bypass from four sides and spectator seating, while the training pool is a basin of 8×15 m with an adjustable depth from 0 to 4.5 m.
‘It is a floating platform equipped with a system of steel ties, whose task is to pull the platform towards the bottom, while using the force of water buoyancy while releasing the steel ties, the platform is directed upwards,’ says Dominik Kardynał, Construction Manager from NDI. ‘Depending on the User’s needs, the platform can be set to a defined depth in the range of 0 – 4.5 m. The facility also has a SPA zone equipped with two Finnish saunas and a steam bath. The relaxation area has a “sunny meadow” with a set of deckchairs and water jets.’
The dimensioned 25 m long swimming pool complies with FINA requirements, it also has an OMEGA timekeeping system for swimming competitions and a measuring system for water polo competitions.
The building has a volume of 15,486 m3. 3000 m3 of concrete were used during construction. Amount of water in the pools: swimming pool 1,100 m3, training pool 700 m3.
The cost of the Investment amounted to PLN 26.5 million gross
These are not the only pools that are currently being built by the Sopot NDI Group. Two pools with associated infrastructure are being built in Katowice, and the City of Katowice is the investor.
