Extension of the port in Krynica Morska is going in the right direction
NDI Group has been implementing a new project for the Maritime Office in Gdynia for several months. Apart from the extension of the existing passenger jetty at the port in Krynica Morska by 65.5 m, it will also secure the slope and extend the berth by 50 metres. The investment is carried out in the “build” and “design-build” systems.
“As part of the project, we have to implement a jetty in the form of a sheet piling bulkhead structure. Currently, we have installed not only all sheet piling, but also pliers and rods. We can say that the fundamental stage of the construction of the bulkheads is behind us. We are ready to start the backfilling works,” says Paweł Śpiewak, Hydrotechnical Works Manager from NDI, the General Contractor of the works.
“In the coming weeks, we will carry out works related to backfilling of the bulkheads and dredging works. Next, we have reinforced concrete works to be done, and then all installation and finishing works as well as works related to the assembly of the quay equipment,” continues Paweł Śpiewak from NDI.
The main part of this investment is the extension of the existing quay by 65.5 metres towards the Vistula Lagoon, i.e. in the south-east direction. The second part of the investment is the construction of a new part of the quay towards Gdańska Street. It is a section of over 140 metres, including 50 metres of berth and over 90 metres of shore reinforcement. In addition, a new access road and a car park will be created. As part of the investment, we will also revitalise greenery.
There will be more room for passenger vessels
“Thanks to this investment, the homing and berthing of vessels in the port in Krynica Morska will be improved. For large passenger vessels, we will obtain over 120 metres of the new quay, and its extension will narrow the entrance to the port and protect it – with south-western winds, the wave will be lower. This will improve the comfort of port users, including sailors and seafarers. The city of Krynica Morska will gain a much larger and more attractive port, which will also increase shipping traffic, tourist traffic as well as interest new customers,” says Wojciech Żurawski, Chief Inspector for the Elbląg Regional Office of the Maritime Office in Gdynia.
This part of the work also provides for dredging works, strengthening the eastern section of the North Basin (91-metres-long) and the northern shore of the North Basin. The plans also include paving almost 200 metres of the nearby road with new lighting and building a car park for 22 cars.
Works on the extension of the port are to be completed later this year. The investor is the Maritime Office in Gdynia. The investment cost amounts to PLN 8 million gross. Its significant part will be covered by EU funding from the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2014-2020.
