After holiday renovations, trams are back on Głogowska Street!

Along Głogowska Street in Poznań, trams run along a renewed route. The tracks were reconstructed on the section from Ściegiennego Street to Hetmańska Street. The pavement has been replaced and the platform edges at three stops have been repaired. The consortium of NDI Energy and NDI SA is responsible for the project.

The refurbishment began with the demolition of the existing concrete block pavement, including the substructure, and removal of the rails. The next phase was to install the track. This was followed by a reinforced concrete surface and longitudinal and transverse expansion joints, which were then filled with a polyurethane compound to increase the durability of the structure used, including the cracks elimination in the slab.

The platform edges have been replaced at three locations – the Sielska stop towards the city centre and the Krauthofera stop in both directions. The old kerbs have been replaced with tram-bus kerbs. Yellow warning tiles have also been installed at the stops, bringing them up to current standards for the safe use of transport by people with disabilities.

The specificity of this task was the short time available for completion. Work began over the summer holidays and was completed in early September as planned so that the route would be ready for the start of the school year and the associated movement of more school children. The work was carried out in the middle lane of the road, with the carriageway remaining open and traffic flowing in one direction. Such guidelines were a major logistical challenge for the whole team, but they also imposed a great deal of discipline on the execution of the work, in terms of the schedule.

The final touches and clean-up are still being carried out, mainly at night to avoid disrupting tram traffic.
