Acceptance of the NDI and Besix bid confirmed to be lawful

The Polish National Chamber of Appeals confirmed that the acceptance of the bid of NDI and Besix – a Polish-Belgian consortium – was lawful. NDI and Besix will be the contractors of the investment “Construction of a waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gdańsk part I” for the Maritime Office in Gdynia.

Let us recall that the NDI Group in consortium with Besix submitted a bid with the best price. The Polish-Belgian consortium offered to perform work for 992,271,000.
The tender covers the construction of protective harbour from the side of the Gulf of Gdańsk, the construction of a shipping channel with a lock and the construction of closures together with waiting stations from the side of the Gulf of Gdańsk and the Vistula Lagoon, and the construction of an artificial island located in the Vistula Lagoon. The shipping channel will be 1-kilometre-long and five-metre-deep. Ultimately, it is to enable vessels with a draft of up to 4 metres, length up to 100 metres, and width up to 20 metres to enter the port of Elbląg. The construction of the channel on the Vistula Spit is to be completed in 2022. The Polish NDI Group carried out several investments in Poland with the Belgians: Centrum Finansowe Puławska, Headquarters of ING Bank Śląski/Chorzowska 50 in Katowice, Sheraton Hotel in Kraków, Sheraton Hotel in Poznań, and also, above all, the DCT 2 Container Terminal – a hydraulic engineering project. Importantly, Besix is a global company specialising in hydraulic engineering projects.

‘We have been preparing for a long time to start another hydraulic engineering project together with Besix. We worked together on the construction of the DCT terminal, but the cooperation has been going on for 25 years. The digging through the Vistula Spit is a unique project, because there are not so many tasks in the field of hydraulic engineering in Poland. We are now preparing logistically to sign the contract and implement the investment,’ said President of the Management Board of NDI Małgorzata Winiarek Gajewska

The investment is to be completed within 32 months from the date of signing the contract, and the sub-stage of the order involving the construction of the Artificial Island with the acceptance and commissioning of the ready silting field should be completed within 20 months from the date of the contract.
