We know the artists of the 12th edition of the NDI Sopot Classic Festival
The twelfth edition of the International NDI Sopot Classic Festival is approaching. As always, music lovers will find a large dose of beautiful sounds from all over the world. A Latin American evening, a Polish and Baroque concert, as well as the Sondra Radvanovsky opera gala – this is the festival’s programme in a nutshell.
The Sopot Classic Festival was established in 2011 on the initiative of the management of the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot and the authorities of the City of Sopot. For 6 years, the NDI Group from Sopot has been the titular sponsor. From the very beginning, the aim of the Festival is to reach die-hard music lovers and those who experience music less frequently with a unique artistic offer. Each time a variety of musical styles meet. The common feature is a high level of performance, excellent preparation, and attention to detail, both in artistic and organizational terms.
“The festival is a real feast for music lovers. But our mission in organizing it is to create such a cultural offer that not only the regulars of philharmonic concerts will reach for. I am extremely grateful to the City of Sopot for many years supporting the festival financially and organizationally and to the festival sponsor, the NDI Group, that we can invite the world’s greatest artists, and that our audience can admire their artistry live in the Forest Opera,” says Wojciech Rajski, artistic director of the festival.
“Since 2017, we have been the titular sponsor of the NDI Sopot Classic festival. It is a real honor for us to be able to sponsor this unique event,” says Małgorzata Winiarek-Gajewska, President of the NDI Group. “We are a Polish family company from Sopot and we want to support locally created events that promote our city around the world. Supporting culture, art, sports and helping those in need have always been a part of NDI. This is also the case with the NDI Sopot Classic festival,” adds the president of NDI, Małgorzata Winiarek-Gajewska.
“The Sopot Classic Festival has been one of our most important cultural events for many years. The Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot and the artistic director Wojciech Rajski have accustomed us over the years to a very high artistic level. An attractive concert programme and stars known from the world’s greatest stages attract music lovers to Sopot like a magnet,” says Jacek Karnowski, Mayor of Sopot.
The 12th edition of this unique cultural event on July 2nd, 2022, at the Forest Opera will be opened by the Latin American Evening. The first part of the evening will feature classical music by composers from this region of the world, the second part will feature special guests – the energetic Cuban Jose Torres with the Havana Dreams ensemble and the Brazilian tenor Thiago Arcanam.
The Polish Concert is also a mandatory item on the programme of each edition of the NDI Sopot Classic Festival. This year we propose a meeting with the music of Polish composers of the 20th and 21st centuries: Andrzej Panufnik, Mikołaj Górecki, Krzysztof Meyer and Paweł Łukaszewski. Artistic director Wojciech Rajski built a programme around the excellent literature of these composers for flute as a concerto instrument. The outstanding Austrian flautist Michael Martin Kofler was invited to participate in the concert. Together with the young Polish artist Natalia Egielman, he will be the soloist of this concert. The concert will be hosted by Rafał Janiak, an extremely talented conductor of the young generation. The event is scheduled for July 5 at the Concert Hall of PCP Sopot.
On the other hand, the Baroque Concert will take place a day later in the Church of St. George in Sopot, where one of the best contemporary countertenors, Polish artist Jakub Józef Orliński, and conductor and violinist Stefan Plewniak, will perform with Il Giardino d’Amore. A very interesting programme will include less frequently works of Handel and Vivaldi.
The final concert at the Forest Opera in Sopot will also be a real feast for music lovers. On July 8, during the Opera Gala, you will be able to admire Sondra Radvanovsky, a world-famous soprano singer, one of the most electrifying contemporary stars of this genre. As it is emphasized by opera music experts, her beautiful voice perfectly harmonizes with her outstanding acting skills and repertoire versatility – from the title role in “Rusalka” and “Lucrezia Borgia”, to Roxanne in “Cyrano de Bergerac” and the title role in “Manon Lescaut”. Radvanovsky is considered to be one of the leading Verdi sopranos as well as a valued interpreter of bel canto.
