The final countdown at the construction of the Hull Hall in the PGZ Stocznia Wojenna in Gdynia!

This is the last step before the completion of the construction of the Hull Hall and the Production Hall on the premises of the PGZ Stocznia Wojenna. Currently, the overhead cranes are being configured and the sheet metal flashings on the facade are being installed. Most of the work in progress consists at the moment of primarily finishing works. The investment project worth over PLN 300 million will be completed in just a few weeks.

– The Hull Hall of PGZ Stocznia Wojenna will be one of the largest facilities of this type in Europe. This is where the hulls of the Miecznik frigates will be built. The investment project started in March 2023, and in December this year we reached the highest construction point – says Maciej Poprawski, Operations Director at PGZ SW responsible for investment project supervision. – The height of the hall in which the hulls of the Miecznik frigates will be built is 43 meters, and including the set of ventilation devices mounted on the roof, it will rise up to 46 meters. The giant hall gates have similar dimensions: 43 meters high and 34 meters wide, which can be compared to the area of two basketball courts. The installed overhead cranes can lift up to 100 tons. The development area of the Hull Hall is nearly 6,000 square metres – calculates Maciej Poprawski.

Hoists with a reach of up to 58 meters are used for erection and encasing works. As many as five out of six hoists of this type available in Poland are working on the construction site.

Finishing works in full swing

Currently, at the construction of the Hull Hall, the configuration of overhead cranes and the installation of sheet metal flashings on the façade are in progress. Additionally, the final painting touch-ups are being made to the steel structure. An external lift has been installed and is currently being connected and configured.

– The Hull Hall is now enclosed and mostly finishing works are continuing. We have completed the window and door joinery works. Both large-area gates also operate on the target power supply – says Piotr Gosch, Works Manager from the NDI Group.

In addition to the Hull Hall, a Production Hall is also being built, occupying nearly 5,000 m2. It will house all shipyard equipment departments and a 4-story office building.

– A resin floor is being installed in the Production Hall, while the installation of internal joinery, lifts and railings is in progress in the office building. Suspended ceilings are being built, painting work and equipment installation works are continuing. We have completed installing the insulating layers of the terrace. The façade works are also nearing completion, says Szymon Pachulski, Works Manager from the NDI Group.

Last paving works

Paving works on the construction site have practically been completed. The construction team estimates the progress of works at 98%.

– We are in the process of carrying out finishing works at the entrances to the buildings, we are working on the pavement around manholes, but also around other devices and details. Work is also underway to make expansion joints in the concrete surfaces. This is also the last stage in the process of creating these paving surfaces. The constructed pavements and floors will bear the assumed huge loads from future vehicles travelling on them and carrying ship components – says Przemysław Młynarczyk, Road Works Manager from the NDI Group.

The concrete floor in the Hull Hall is 100% completed. Works have also begun on laying a layer of antistatic and anti-slip resin on the floor in the Production Hall, which ensures effective protection: – This is the final layer, you could say “carpeting”, when it comes to the surface in this Hall – adds Przemysław Młynarczyk.

The technical infrastructure, the quay and internal roads are being altered. All road works are expected to be completed by the end of this month.

The investor of the project is PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, and the general contractor is a consortium consisting of NDI SA, NDI SOPOT S.A. and Pekabex BET.
