NDI S.A. has completed the construction of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre.
NDI S.A. has completed the construction of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre. Being the only facility of the type fitted with a retractable roof, the theatre is unique in Europe. The roof weighs about 90 tonnes and is made up of two slopes forming a hip inclined at 2.8 degrees. The roof is retracted by 14 hoists working synchronically, all within 3 minutes. The stage is suited for performances shown in three conventions: the classical Italian stage, Elizabethan stage, and central arena. The main hall with its timber galleries can accommodate the audience of up to 600. The facades are finished with 781 337 pieces of hand-formed anthracite brick (Vanderanden). The facility features an interesting conceptual component, namely a 6 metre tall wall which encloses the building. The 265 metre long pathway on top of the wall offers a panoramic view of Gdańsk. The usable floor area of the above-ground section of the building is 4473.5 square metres, the basement is 3461.9 square metres large.
NDI S.A. continued the construction works between 26 February 2013 and 15 September 2014.
