NDI Group will reconstruct the Indyjskie Quay in the Port of Gdynia
The reconstruction of the Indyjskie Quay in the Port of Gdynia will soon commence. The official signing of the contract for this project took place today, 21 December, at the headquarters of Zarząd Morskiego Portu Gdynia (the Port of Gdynia Authority). The general contractor is a consortium composed of NDI Group companies: NDI S.A. and NDI SOPOT S.A. They have 22 months to complete all the works and obtain an operating permit.
“We are delighted to have signed another contract at the Port of Gdynia. Our staff did a great job with the work at the loading and storage yards, which we have completed on time, and now, we are already working on the reconstruction of the Holenderskie Quay,” says Małgorzata Winiarek-Gajewska, President of the NDI Group. “The next project will allow us to make greater use of our staff’s experience in hydraulic engineering and constitute an excellent addition to our portfolio in this sector for years to come,” adds the NDI Group President.
NDI is tasked with the reconstruction of the Indyjskie Quay over a length of approximately 540 m, consisting primarily of widening it by 6 m. The new quay wall will be made of anchored sheet piles and pipe piles. The project includes dismantling the quay’s hydraulic engineering structures, demolition of the reinforced concrete pile cap, the railway track and the seabed reinforcement. The project area will be cleared of unexploded ordnance and dredged to a depth of -15.5 m to allow access to the quay for bulk carriers arriving at the Port of Gdynia. The reconstruction includes the new rail-road system, technological systems, new quay equipment, a reinforced concrete pile cap structure and a receiving hopper. The existing flyovers will be extended and the transhipment stations handling vessels will be relocated.
The general contractor has 22 months to complete the entire contract but will be commissioning the first section of the project after just 16 months.
“Thanks to the modernisation of the Indyjskie Quay, in just 22 months, it will be ready to receive grain cargoes at the deep water quay. This will allow the Port of Gdynia to maintain its precedence in the Baltic Sea region in terms of grain transhipment,” Jacek Sadaj, President of Zarząd Morskiego Portu Gdynia S.A.
This is not the only project that NDI is currently carrying out in the Port of Gdynia. Since July this year, the Holenderskie Quay is also being modernised. The work to be carried out includes the reconstruction of the rail-road surface with utilities and the construction of a grid to power port cranes at the quay there. This task is to be completed by the end of 2023.
