“Construction of the Year 2019” titles were awarded to NDI
Two First Degree Awards and “Construction of the Year 2019” titles were awarded to NDI from Sopot by The Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians. NDI as the general contractor was awarded for the construction of Rotunda Bank PKO Bank Polski in Warsaw and the Sports Centre of the Naval Academy – the second stage including the construction of an indoor swimming pool with facilities in Gdynia. Both investments have already been put into use.
The realization of Rotunda was quite a challenge, as it is one of the most characteristic buildings in Warsaw. The scope of work included, among others, demolition of the existing building and construction of a new service facility Rotunda PKO Bank Polski S.A. in its place together with full technical infrastructure. The Rotunda is a one-storey building with a basement extending beyond the outline of the building and a large mezzanine above the ground floor. The supporting structure at the level of above-ground storeys is a system of steel columns on which the steel roof structure is based. At the level of underground storeys, the main load-bearing structure is a system of reinforced concrete walls and columns. The façade of the new building is lightweight and covered with glass. An open-air amphitheatre with a green wall system was built outside. Inside, the function of banking services has been maintained on floors -1 and 0, but there is public space on level +1.
In Gdynia, an eight-track 25-metre long swimming pool and a multifunctional training pool with a movable bottom were created. An eight-track indoor swimming pool and a multifunctional training pool with a movable bottom were added to the existing sports hall. A new hall with sanitary facilities and instructor rooms were created and the wellness rooms were rebuilt. The parameters of the swimming pool: dimensions in horizontal plane 21×25 m with variable depth.
The PZIITB awards have been granted since 1989, so it was the 30th edition of this prestigious competition promoting Polish construction industry. NDI has already been awarded this title in 2016 for the construction of the DCT2 Container Terminal in Gdańsk.
